MAKE SURE YOUR DOCTOR IS IN

PRINTER FREINDLY VERSION |

Do you need a knowledgeable helping hand to motivate you to succeed? If you feel like you are lacking support, maybe it’s time to open up to YOUR personal doctor about your weight loss efforts. Here are a few tips on how to make sure your doctor is in.

1. Bring it up. Your doctor may not know you’re struggling with or having concerns about your weight. Sometimes you need to initiate the conversation. You and your doctor will be able to go forward from there.

2. Tell the truth! Be ready to share your typical routine. Discuss the foods you’re eating and the exercise you’re doing (or not doing). Be painfully honest. It may be tempting to fib about your missteps, but giving your doctor false information will undermine your efforts.

3. Be on top of your BMI. Your Body Mass Index number reveals your risk of obesity and health issues. Talking to your doctor about your BMI will help both of you understand the measures you should take to create a workable goal for yourself. Don’t know your BMI? Click here.

4. Discuss your goals. Once you’ve figured out your BMI and discussed your lifestyle openly with your doctor, it’s time for the two of you to talk about how you should proceed. How much weight should you lose? What steps should you take to lose that weight? These are questions that you and your doc can talk about together. Once you’ve determined whether or not you are in appropriate health to start exercising and altering your eating habits, come back to Diet.com to pick out some delicious and healthy recipes and get acquainted with a new fitness routine!

5. Get it? Got it? Good! Sometimes it can seem like doctors are speaking a different language. They may know what they’re talking about, but that doesn’t necessarily mean YOU do. If you’re unsure about what you and your doctor have discussed or decided upon, don’t leave the office! You owe it to yourself to make sure you have a clear grasp of where you stand with your doctor-approved prescription for your health!

Always keep in mind that you aren’t alone in your struggle for a better body and healthier lifestyle. Know that you will have a better chance at success if you’re knowledgeable about what’s best for you and your body.

Your doctor can help… but you’ve got to open the door for him or her to do so! Follow this prescription for better health and make sure your doctor is in.
