SPRING TRAINING FOR SERIOUS SLIMMERS

PRINTER FREINDLY VERSION |

March is finally here! That means we are creeping into the spring months, and before we know it, it will be full-blown springtime and time to turn our clocks forward an hour! But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. For much of the nation, the snow is beginning to melt, the sun is starting to come out, and birds and other little animals are making their way out of their hiding places.

That means it’s time for YOU to get out of your hiding place too! If you’ve been hibernating all winter, it’s time for you to get cracking toward you weight loss goals with our 5 tips for taking your diet outdoors.

1. Biking. A great cardiovascular workout coupled with a green-energy way to get close to nature! Grease up your gears and hop onto your two-wheeler for one of the best exercises you can do for your heart. Once you build up your stamina, you may want to start riding a bike to work or to run errands. Not only will you be helping yourself, but you’ll also be lessening the pollution from automobiles.

2. Get sporty. As a kid, I know I always loved playing catch in the great outdoors and swinging the bat. Well, just because we’ve grown older doesn’t mean we’ve grown too old to experience the fun and fitness of playing sports outdoors. So go out and toss the ball with a friend or family member, or start up a pick-up game of basketball.

3. Take a hike! No, really… take a hike. Put on your hiking boots and head for the woods. Going hiking is a great way to get your heart rate up and burn calories. It’s also a great opportunity to relax and enjoy Mother Nature’s living room. Come on, lace up your boots and get to a hill! Just make sure you know the terrain well before you go.

4. Wax on, wax off. Spring clean your car! It’s an activity that will get you out into the sun and fresh air, leave your automobile sparkling AND burn calories all at the same time.

5. Up a creek WITH a paddle! Canoeing and kayaking can be tranquil and relaxing activities. Depending on your intensity level, they can also double as a great workout. So paddle up, and enjoy the benefits of some good aquatic exercise!

Any or all of these five tips can be done solo or with a friend or family. So grab the whole fam and head for the hills… the woods… the lake! Spring into action this month, and you’ll be on the fast track for a better body by summer!
